Oklahoma Highway Patrol offering free motorcycle safety classes

Motorcycle accidents are far more common than they should be in Oklahoma. In effort to reduce the number of motorcycle accidents over the coming summer months, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol will be hosting free safety classes for motorcyclists.

The classes will be held at locations throughout the state and they will cover topics such as:

  • How to pick up a downed bike
  • How to properly use the clutch and throttle
  • How to maneuver a motorcycle at slow speeds
  • How to use head and eye movements to control the direction of the motorcycle
  • How to change the direction of the motorcycle
  • How to maneuver when braking is not an option
  • How input into the handlebars causes counter-steering

In addition to getting valuable safety training, participants will also receive a certificate upon completion of the class that they can give to their insurance providers which could result in a rate reduction for up to three years.

In order to participate in the classes, participants need: a good motorcycle with a valid tag, insurance, a valid driver’s license with a motorcycle endorsement, and safety gear including a helmet, gloves and boots. Find out more about the classes here.

If a motorcycle accident should occur this summer, remember that you will need to be represented by an experienced attorney.

All too often, motorcyclists are blamed for accidents that they didn’t cause, and there can be legal obstacles in the way of obtaining the compensation that you deserve from the other driver or your own insurance company. A experienced attorney will make sure that your rights and interests are protected.

With that said, here’s to a summer of fun and safe riding for all!
