Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist
Some or all of your car accident compensation may come from your own insurance policy, even when another driver is clearly at fault. Many people are not aware they have such coverage until they need to file an accident claim.
Ward & Glass, L.L.P., handles all the details of your personal injury case, including haggling with insurance companies to get your full entitled compensation. Based in Norman, our lawyers handle auto accidents in the greater Oklahoma City area and statewide.
Uninsured Motorist / Underinsured Motorist
Oklahoma has one of the highest rates of uninsured drivers in the country. An estimated 25 percent have no insurance, and many of those who are insured carry only the minimal coverage required by law. The minimum for bodily injury liability is $25,000 per person, up to a maximum of $50,000 to be shared among all victims. When the injuries are severe or permanent, $25,000 does not begin to cover the losses or future care.
This is where your own UM/UIM policy kicks in:
- Uninsured motorist — Your losses are covered if the negligent driver is not insured.
- Underinsured motorist — Your insurance makes up the difference after the other driver’s policy limits are exhausted.
- Hit-and-run motorist — A driver who flees the scene is treated as an uninsured motorist under your policy.
Don’t Expect Your Insurer To Do The Right Thing
Insurance companies commonly deny UM and UIM claims or give policyholders the classic runaround. Our attorneys intervene to put your insurer on notice. We have litigated uninsured and underinsured motorist claims, forcing insurers to pay full damages up to our client’s policy limits.
You don’t need to worry about any of this. You just need to know that you are covered and that we will hold the negligent parties and insurance companies to their obligations.
